Coalition Letter to HELP Committee and Senator Snowe

June 16, 2009

This letter will be going to all members of the HELP committee and Senator Snowe.

Dear Chairman Kennedy and Ranking Member Enzi:

The undersigned national organizations applaud your leadership and commitment to women’s health and fully support and endorse your efforts to codify the offices of women’s health within the federal agencies in healthcare reform legislation. Without these important offices women will not have access to the latest information and tools they need to make informed decisions about their health and the health of their loved ones.

The offices of women’s health serve a vital role for women within our federal government and are a critical link to insuring that women have the healthcare information they need and access to services and treatments for their healthcare. Studies have shown that women make the majority of healthcare decisions for their households, and without the valuable information and tools that these federal women’s health offices provide, women will be at a tremendous disadvantage in making those decisions.

These offices help assure all women that their unique needs are being met and are being taken into account– from basic research conducted at the National Institutes of Health to public education and awareness campaigns run by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Thank you for your leadership and support of women’s health through this action in healthcare reform.

Sincerely,

The Society for Women’s Health Research
