Summary
The National Women's Law Center (NWLC) seeks an energetic, web-savvy and detail-oriented intern to provide support to NWLC’s Online Outreach team. The intern’s responsibilities focus on social media and blog outreach. The intern must be available to work part-time 20 hours per week minimum during the spring semester with flexible start and end dates between approximately January and June 2013.
The Organization
The National Women's Law Center is a non-profit organization that has been working since 1972 to advance and protect women's legal rights. The Center focuses on major policy areas of importance to women and their families including economic security, education, employment, health, and reproductive rights, with special attention given to the concerns of low-income women. The NWLC office is an extremely friendly environment with many opportunities to learn and make professional connections with staff members that work in many different issue areas.
Intern Duties and Responsibilities
The Online Outreach Intern supports the Outreach team with a variety of online outreach projects and activities. Duties may include, but will not be limited to:
- Helping to develop and maintain the Center’s presence on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest
- Drafting blog posts for the Center’s blog
- Participating in brainstorming conversations for new memes, graphics, and other social media content
- Aiding with video blogging
- Assisting with outreach to key bloggers and online networks
- Monitoring the blogging community and online news to find articles relevant to NWLC’s work
In addition, the Online Outreach Intern’s responsibilities will include helping to maintain a database of blogger contacts and administrative assistance with the Center’s online advocacy tool. As needed, the Online Outreach Intern may also be called on to assist with general outreach efforts to support the work of the Center.
Qualifications
Applicants should be comfortable working with online platforms and must have experience with Facebook and Twitter. Experience working with additional social media networks like Pinterest and Tumblr is preferred. Blogging or other experience writing for the web is highly desirable; HTML experience is a plus. The intern should also have strong writing skills, an eye for detail, and a creative outlook.
NWLC internships are unpaid; NWLC will work with students and their universities to provide college credit for the internship.
